Dils-Energie welcomes approval of the law amending the law on the organization of the electricity market in order to establish a Capacity Remuneration Mechanism
Dils-Energie NV is planning to construct a new 920MW gas-fired combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) electric generating facility in Dilsen-Stokkem (Province of Limburg, Belgium),
For Belgium to have sufficient reliability to support the increased deployment of renewables and the phasing out of the nuclear capacity in 2025 Elia has identified the need for 3,600MW of new reliable generation capacity. The modification of the law on the organization of the electricity market is welcomed by Dils-Energie as a step towards the provision of a clear and stabile market structure, supported by a long-term Energy strategy and a capacity remuneration mechanism (“CRM”). This amendment creates the framework to develop the right power generation mix to guarantee security of supply to Belgium.
“The Belgium Parliament approval of this legislation is an important step to implementing a CRM in Belgium. This will make an investment in new reliable generation capacity possible” said Project Manager, Adrian Bobula.
Dils-Energie already has a Generation licence, an Environmental permit and connection agreements for the gas and electricity networks. This will make the project, based in Limburg, one of the leading contenders to provide security of supply in the future.
“We are excited to be a Belgium-based contender in a future capacity auction whilst also developing our second project in Belgium. We look forward to working closely with the local community and all interested stakeholders to make this project a success,” says Adrian Bobula.
The planned facility will be both highly efficient and flexible thanks to its state-of-the-art gas turbine technology. It will strengthen the local economy by creating up to 1,000 jobs during construction period and approximately 100 direct and indirect jobs during operation. The project represents an investment of about €500 – 650 million.
Advanced Power, together with partners previously developed the 420MW T-Power CCGT project in Tessenderlo, Belgium, which started commercial operations in June 2011.
